A Simple Solution to Keep Your Remote Workers Engaged

A Simple Solution to Keep Your Remote Workers Engaged

A trained and engaged workforce is going to put you well ahead of the majority of your competition, and technology goes a long way toward making this goal a reality. With the right technology in place, your business and its employees can be productive and engaged even while working remotely. It all starts with increasing access to tools while building a company culture that can withstand the pressures of remote work.

Remote Work Can Disconnect Your Team

It’s pretty hard to feel disconnected from your peers and colleagues when you spend eight hours a day in the same office with them. Remote employees, however, don’t have this capability in the traditional sense, and they are limited by the technology they have in terms of how they can connect with their coworkers. A December 2021 study found that only a quarter of hybrid or remote employees felt connected to the mission of their company; one other study conducted in 2023 showed that nearly half of employees think that the greatest challenge of remote work is a disconnection to their company culture. Clearly this is a problem that must be addressed.

But How Do We Do That?

First, Work With Your Remote Team

You cannot adequately address company culture without first involving your employees in some way. In this case, you want to work with your remote team to see what you can do to help them stay as connected as possible to the rest of your team.

The key is to find ways to include them and opportunities for them to get involved on their terms. Take some time to ask questions about what it would take for them to want to get involved with what the home office is doing, as well as what you can do to make sure they feel valued as an employee and a human being. Failing to do this could result in the employee deciding that the business is just not a good fit for them, and they might try to take their skills elsewhere.

Second, Use Their Feedback to Improve Remote Work Structures

You have a lot of tools available to you to help improve relations with your remote team, and many of them are technology-related solutions that are known to improve productivity and efficiency as well. With cloud-based tools, you can allow your team to work on their projects in collaboration with your remote employees seamlessly.
